Roger began his career in 1984 in Johannesburg as a freelance illustrator, teacher, and cartoonist. He taught graphic design and sculpture at the Federated Union of Black Arts (FUBA) and created political cartoons for the *Vrye Weekblad* and the *Financial Mail*.

In 1986, he built his first puppets for a political satire.
Puppet-making required him to draw on a wide range of his skills: engineering, sculpture, mold-making, casting, painting, and, finally, performing on stage. He was quickly captivated by this art form.
Although his puppets were initially used in live performances, his puppetry quickly led him into the world of television commercials and film. From 1990 to 2008, he worked primarily in film and television, where he was involved in several hundred international productions.
In 2009, he created 40 simple animal puppet designs made of white polyethylene in Linz, Austria, to conduct workshops intended to give the people of Linz a hands-on experience with building and performing. Over 400 life-size creature puppets took part in a parade through the streets of Linz, and many of them were later used in the annual „Klangwolke“ show along the Danube.
These white creatures led Roger back to live performance. His animal puppets are in demand worldwide. In addition to hundreds of events and theater productions, they appeared at the opening of the „World Economic Forum“ in Davos in 2010 and the „FIFA World Cup“ in South Africa in 2010. Roger was also asked to design a series of giant insect puppets for the opening ceremony of the „Rio 2016“ Olympic Games.

Roger lives in a small village called „Wilderness“ on the southern coast of South Africa.
