What is it all about? The story
Escape into an uncertain future
Johanna grows up in a world where knowledge is forbidden for women. But she defies all odds and impresses with her sharp mind. When her father tries to punish her brutally, her only option is to flee. A new world opens up for her at the cathedral school in Dorstadt, but not everyone grants her this place.
Love and betrayal
In Dorstadt, Johanna is attracted to the noble Margrave Gerold, but her happiness does not last. In Gerold's absence, she is forced to marry a simple man. A cruel Norman attack overtakes the wedding party in Dorstadt and Johanna is the only one to miraculously survive the massacre. Left to her own devices by fate, she makes a lonely decision.
