In June 2026 celebrates „Der Schimmelreiter - The Mystery Musical“ will have its world premiere at the Musicalsommer Fulda (30.05.-30.08.2026).
For the new musical penned by Dennis Martin, spotlight musicals is now looking for children to join the musical stars in telling Theodor Storm's famous story about the „Rider between the Worlds“.
There will be two children's roles in the musical. On the one hand, the audience gets to know Hauke Haien, who later becomes the „Schimmelreiter“, as a child, and on the other, Hauke Haien and his wife Elke have a daughter called Wienke.
Boys and girls between the ages of 7 and 14 from Fulda and the surrounding area are being sought for the roles.
„Casting the roles for next year will be particularly exciting. On the one hand, we are still looking for relatively young girls for the role of Wienke, most of whom have probably never been on such a big stage before. On the other hand, for the role of the young Hauke Haien, we are looking for children - both boys and girls - who not only have acting talent, but also singing talent“

At the children's casting in February, they can finally put their skills to the test. Five children per role are then selected to take turns on stage at the Fuldaer Schlosstheater in the summer.

The story
In a long lost time, somewhere behind the dykes of the North Frisian coast a village lives in constant fear of the forces of nature. Devastating storm surges, which the people interpret as God's punishment, have already claimed countless victims. The young Dike count Hauke Haien does not believe in higher powers, however, but in reason and mathematics. He sees the world in lines and numbers and is convinced that he can build a dyke that can withstand even the strongest storm surges. However, his project not only becomes a battle against the sea, but also against the distrust and superstition of the villagers.
Only one stands by him - Elke. She is clever and empathetic and the only one who recognizes the sensitive and vulnerable person behind the restless and ambitious dyke count. A connection develops between the two outsiders, which soon turns into an unshakeable and unconditional love. But the higher the new dyke grows, the deeper the rifts between the two dyke counts and the village community become.
When Hauke one day comes into possession of a mysterious horse When Hauke Haien, who seems to be out of this world, arrives, haunting and reality finally begin to blur in the minds of the villagers. Who is this Hauke Haien? Is he perhaps in league with the devil?
