Current spotlight musicals with the participation of Kevin Schroeder

Kevin Schroeder is one of the most distinguished German musical authors of his generation. For over 15 years, he has been writing books and/or song lyrics for major original musicals and adaptations, which have won numerous awards and have been successfully produced throughout the German-speaking world.

He received awards from the German Musical Academy in 2017 for „Best Lyrics“ for „Vom Fischer und seiner Frau“ and in 2018 for „Fack ju Göhte“, which won „Best Musical“. His other well-known works include „Frankenstein“, „Mata Hari“, „Lotte“ and „The Diaries of Adam and Eve“. For spotlight musicals, he was part of the writing team for „Robin Hood“ and the new version of „Die Päpstin“. Most recently, his large-scale choral musical „Judith“ celebrated its premiere in Dortmund's Westfalenhalle with over 3,000 participants.

Another focus of his work is the translation of English-language musicals. In recent years, his German versions have been heard at all major musical venues - from Disney's „The Ice Queen“ and „Mrs. Doubtfire“ to „Shrek“, „Aladdin“, „Naturally Blonde“, „Sister Act“, „Chess“ and „9 to 5“, from Gershwin's „Crazy for You“ and „The Sound of Music“ to „Hamilton“. The German lyrics to „Hamilton“ won the Craig Simmons Award in 2022 and were described as a „masterpiece“ by the „New York Times“.

Kevin Schroeder is currently working on the German version of „Der Teufel trägt Prada“ and a musical adaptation of „Rapunzel“, which will premiere in spring 2027. He is also the founder of schreib:maschine, the only open stage for new German-language musicals, and is committed to the further development of the genre as part of the German-language cultural landscape.
