spotlight musicals GmbH celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2024. The story began in 2004 with the musical „Bonifatius“. Since then, seven more world premieres have followed with more than 1 million spectators.
To celebrate the anniversary in style, spotlight musicals hosted a grand gala on 16.08.2024 at Domplatz Fulda. Together with some musical stars who have been with the company for many years, a large choir and the Cologne Symphony Orchestra, the 6,200 spectators, including many companions, were able to immerse themselves in a journey through time over the last 20 years on the sold-out Fulda Cathedral Square.
The evening opened with the first spotlight musical „Bonifatius“, whose overture was performed by the Kölner Symphoniker, before songs from „Der Medicus“, „Elisabeth“ and „Kolpings Traum“ were played.
Managing directors Peter Scholz and Dennis Martin, who was not only involved on the piano that day as a composer, led the audience through the evening and shared anecdotes about the creation of the musicals.
In addition to soulful duets and powerful vocal solos, the audience was also delighted by the powerful ensemble, which transported the audience to „Bristol City“, among other things.
A special highlight was the performance by Chris de Burgh, who performed „Freedom for Nottingham“ from the musical „Robin Hood“ together with Mark Seibert and the ensemble. At the end of the evening, Sabrina Weckerlin bathed the cathedral square in a sea of lights with her song „Das bin ich“ from the musical „Die Päpstin“.
„Salz der Erde“ and „Ein Leben lang“ sung by Thomas Borchert also set the mood for the open-air performances by „Bonifatius“, which followed the gala on the cathedral square.
After around three hours full of memories, the brilliant anniversary gala ended with „It feels like home“ in the home of spotlight musicals - in the heart of Fulda.
We can already reveal that there will be another gala on Fulda Cathedral Square as part of Hessentag 2026 in Fulda.
